Monday 18th September 2017 2pm to 5pm. Room G4/5 Brian Jackson House, New North Parade, Huddersfield HD1 5JP

This seminar draws on social science research, lived experiences, activism and practitioner knowledge with the aim to advance understandings of children and childhood in the context of asylum. 

The event is aimed primarily at practitioners and those who work with children and young people, as
well as students, academics and other professionals. Key contributors will explore different aspects
of practice and policy:
- Isobel Bowler: Senior Immigration Caseworker, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit:
‘Working with Children Seeking Asylum’.
- John Grayson: Independent Researcher, South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action
Group: ‘Asylum Housing and Families’.
- Dr Ala Sirriyeh: Lecturer in Sociology, University of Keele: ‘Undocumented Youth Activists’
- Dr Kate Smith: Research Fellow (Asylum and migration), University of Huddersfield:
‘Asylum Support, Mothers and Children in Kirklees’.
