Detailed Description
During the visit, Civil Engineering students will gain first-hand insight into the construction of a nationally significant infrastructure project. Wren Hall Converter Station is being built to house the specialist technology that converts electricity between AC and DC, enabling efficient long-distance transmission of power through the EGL2 network.
The visit will provide valuable exposure to large-scale civil engineering works, construction management, project delivery, and the challenges of developing infrastructure that supports renewable energy generation and future electricity demand. Students will also learn about the roles of major industry partners involved in the project, including BAM, Hitachi Energy, Prysmian, and National Grid.
